Why “A Well Knit Womb”?

The name “A Well Knit Womb” was birthed primarily from my love of Psalm 139, which states, “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.” (vs. 13). As a (slightly obsessive) knitter of 15 years this description paints for me a stunning photo of how deeply invested God is in the very minute parts of our lives.

Did you know that female infants’ reproductive organs are fully developed at just 20 weeks gestation!? This includes the uterus and both ovaries, containing ALL a woman’s reproductive eggs for life.
Thus, at just 9 weeks past conception, a woman’s body is being prepared for future birth. The ability to carry and nourish life is quite literally built into our DNA.
As a doula, it is my mission to build your confidence in this single truth, that you were created for and are fully equipped to birth and nourish your baby. No gimmicks, no extras, because something we were made to do should require no hoops to jump through or complicated steps to achieve.

Here, I believe that no matter what interrupts our natural process, or how our bodies seem to fail us, a woman’s body is “well-knit” to grow, birth, and sustain life, just as promised, from conception to postpartum and beyond.
